NASA and several US universities are collaborating on a three-year project to create and test safety management systems for autonomous electric takeoff and landing aircraft, which would provide taxi service in cities. Machine learning technology used in eVTOLs “can analyze a situation better than a human, but it doesn’t have the intuition to deal with unusual situations,” says Gautam Biswas, a University of Vanderbilt engineering professor involved in the project.
