AGENCY: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Department of Transportation (DOT).
ACTION: Request for comments.
SUMMARY: NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) provides comparative information on the safety of new vehicles to assist consumers with vehicle purchasing decisions and encourage motor vehicle manufacturers to make vehicle safety improvements. On
December 16, 2015, NHTSA published in the Federal Register a “Request for comments” notice in which it described changes it plans to make to NCAP. The major planned changes discussed in the December 2015 notice still remain the same. Today’s notice provides or references certain updates to information that notice contained. These updates include: (1) modifications to information or materials previously provided, (2) new information that completes the technical basis for the planned changes to NCAP, and (3) a discussion of the new 5-star safety rating system. Today’s notice seeks comments on these modified and new materials as well as the new rating system.
DATES: Comments should be submitted no later than [60 days from publication date].
