The Automotive Safety Council seeks its next President to lead the organization into its next chapter.
After leading the Automotive Safety Council as President since 2008, Doug Campbell will retire at the end of 2026. Over nearly two decades of service — first as TRW's representative on the ASC Board and later at the helm of the organization — Doug has been a steady advocate for member companies and a trusted voice connecting industry, government, and public safety. To ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition, ASC has begun the search for its next President, with a flexible start date no later than January 8, 2027. About the role The President of ASC serves as the organization's chief executive leader, overseeing all operations, setting strategic direction, and representing ASC externally. Working closely with the Board of Directors, industry partners, and congressional stakeholders, the President advances automotive safety initiatives and serves as the organization's primary spokesperson and advocate.
Key responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and strategic vision, aligning safety initiatives with long-term industry trends
Represent ASC to NHTSA, NTSB, Congress, IIHS, Euro NCAP, Global NCAP, and other agencies and academia, and serve as official media spokesperson
Oversee finances, staffing, and operations, including budgeting, reporting, and tax filings
Plan and execute the annual membership meeting and the Washington, D.C. Technology Fair
Direct technical committees and prepare ASC responses to the Federal Register
Recruit new member companies and coordinate marketing and social media with the Marketing Director
Issue a weekly NHTSA recall report
Qualifications
20+ years in the automotive safety industry, with 10+ years in senior leadership or executive roles
Proven ability to engage with government officials, including Congress
Demonstrated success managing large-scale events and marketing campaigns
Excellent communication and public speaking skills
Automotive safety product knowledge
Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders
Compensation & structure Salary range of $180,000–$220,000 based on experience. This is a contractor position reporting to the ASC Board of Directors; healthcare, FICA and Medicare taxes, retirement, and vacation are the responsibility of the contractor. An office expense allowance (cell phone, internet, routine expenses) and a generous travel budget for ASC activities are included. Flexible start date, no later than January 8, 2027.
